How to Package Parcels, Packaging for Parcels, Parcel Package?

When sending a parcel, it is crucial to make sure your parcel arrive in the hands of your recipients safely, especially for e-commerce transactions. Awful Parcel status can be even cause complaint or refund, and affect your further dealings. Keep this in mind, I collected and summarized some useful packaging advices on how to package parcels.

1.       Packing materials play an important part in protecting your contents in the parcel, you must make sure it is firm, shock-proof, moisture-proof, anti-static.
2.       Parcel packaging should be appropriate size. If it is too small, then the content could be easily damaged. If it is too big, then you need to fill it up with extra foams or bubbles and the shipping cost will increase.
3.       Choose boxes made of corrugated cardboard, with good quality outer liners. Use heavy-duty double-layered board for valuable items.
4.       Make use of cushioning materials, especially to stop your packaging contents from moving.
5.       Use strapping, when suitable, as a good way to seal and secure your box. Use strong tape if a strapping machine is not available.
6.       Put fragile goods in the centre of a package; ensuring they don't touch the sides. Your item should be well cushioned on all sides.
7.       Ensure liquids are stored in leak-free containers, packed with a lightweight, strong, internal material (for example, Styrofoam) and sealed with a plastic bag. Always remember that bad packaging may cause damage to surrounding items.
8.       Seal semi-liquids, greasy or strong-smelling substances with adhesive tape, then wrap in grease resistant paper. Always remember that bad packaging may cause damage to surrounding items.
9.       Place powders and fine grains in strong plastic bags, securely sealed and then packed in a rigid fibreboard box.
10.   Use "arrow-up" label for non-solid materials.
11.   Repack your gifts properly. Many goods sold in attractive packaging may not be suitable for shipping, so you should repack it in good shape.
12.   Use triangular tubes not round tube-type cylinders to pack rolled plans, maps and blueprints.
13.   Remember always to pack small items in flyers appropriately.
14.   Protect your data discs, audio and video-tapes with soft cushioning material around each item.
15.   Complete the address clearly and completely, using uppercase letters when handwriting labels to improve readability for carriers’ personnel.
16.   When shipping sharp items, such as knives or scissors, ensure that you fully protect the edges and points. Heavy cardboard is suitable for this. Fix the protective material securely so that it cannot be accidentally removed in transit.
17.   Always use cardboard dividers when sending flat, fragile material (such as vinyl records).
18.   When re-using a box, remove all labels and stickers. Ensure that the box is in good shape and not worn out.
19.   Do not consider "Fragile" and "Handle” with care" labels as a substitute for careful packaging. They are only appropriate for information purposes.
20.   Do not over seal your package. Remember that all shipments can be opened by customs authorities for inspection.
21.   Do not use cellophane tape or rope to seal your shipment.
22.   Do not use bags made of fabric or cloth.
23.   Please ensure that all hazardous symbols are removed if you are reusing old boxes or packaging. Parcels containing these symbols will be stopped by the courier and may incur fines.

  1. Wow, that's quite a long list on how to package such parcels. I think the very most important part about it is to wrap it on newspapers and then wrap it again with some bubble wrap, lots of it. And never forget to write the fragile sign on the box. That should do it.

  3. Great guide on shipping crates and packages, most people really won't think of the basics and essentials. I've seen people send packages away that look like they survived a garbage disposal.
